HAWTHORNE, NJ - As a gesture of thanks, the borough of Hawthorne has asked residents to clap for healthcare workers, first responders, and essential workers such as grocery store, pharmacy, and restaurant workers, in a show of town-wide support at noon.

"Mayor Goldberg is asking that today at 12 noon, go outside or open a window to applaud all of those people who have sacrificed to make our life better," the borough said in a statement.  "Please remember that our firefighters and ambulance corps members are volunteers."

Mayor Goldberg first put forward the clap-out idea in his Monday, April 6, coronavirus update.
