Update: Monday evening the borough announced that there were now 49 cases in Hawthorne.
HAWTHORNE, NJ - The Passaic County Department of Health updated its municipality-wide listing of new coronavirus cases on Monday, March 30. The update indicated that one person has now died in Hawthorne. The county's official tally for Hawthorne stands at 32 confirmed cases, although Mayor Richard Goldberg said in a letter that the number of cases in town was in the "low forties."
No details were readily available on the deceased individual. An inquiry with the Department of Health in Paterson, which oversees Hawthorne, was not immediately returned.
The county listed the following for Hawthorne's neighbors:
- Prospect Park: 11 cases, 0 fatalities
- North Haledon: 13 cases, 0 fatalities
- Haledon: 12 cases, 0 fatalities
- Paterson: 173 cases, 4 fatalities
In Bergen County, County Executive James Tedesco announced that as of 6:00 p.m., Monday, there were the following cases:
- Fair Lawn: 110 cases
- Glen Rock: 25 cases
- Wyckoff: 27 cases
- Ridgewood: 64 cases
