HAWTHORNE, NJ - Republican voters going to the polls in Tuesday's June 4 primary election will have found all four wards uncontested, including Ward 2, despite Phil Speulda's name appearing on the ballot.  He had withdrawn his petition to run in the primary against Goldberg-backed Rayna Laiosa but just after the deadline to print the ballots.

Instead, Hawthorne Democrats have the sole contest in town.  The battle is also to be found in Ward 2, the long-held stronghold of Council Vice President John Bertollo who has decided not to seek re-election.  Thomas Bushnauskas, running his own campaign, is facing off against Brett Murphy, who has the party line.  Bushnauskas remains the last challenger in a primary election that originally had three contests.

In Ward 3, Carey Cornett, Jr., a law student, was set to face off against incumbent Councilman Garret Sinning in a Republican primary, but withdrew his petition nine days after submitting it.
