HAWTHORNE, NJ - The borough of Hawthorne announced Sunday evening that those residents in Zone 4 whose garbage was not collected on Friday should put it out Monday morning for collection.  "Sorry for any inconvenience," a statement from the borough read.

Residential dissatisfaction with the garbage collection company has been rife and ongoing, as evidenced by the plethora of intracommunity conversations online.  Missed collection, allegations of messes being left, and other complaints are common.  The community's displeasure, however, has not gone unnoticed by the borough council.

Council President Frank Matthews took to social media this weekend, addressing fellow zone 4 residents.  "I am as ticked off as you are with this company and live in this area with you. We have spoken with other vendors and without going into legal discussions, this will not continue. There will be costs associated with a change but you all deserve better service than what this vendor is providing. More to follow once I get a reply to the pick up plan."
