HAWTHORNE, NJ - The borough of Hawthorne announced that no recycling or garbage will be picked up on New Years Day, Wednesday, January 1.  The trash and recycling scheduled to be picked up Wednesday and Thursday will both be picked up on Thursday, January 2.

The borough also said that bulky waste will be collected as well, but that no appliances, electronics, or metal would be taken.  Residents who need these items removed can call the Hawthorne Department of Public Works at 973-427-5330 to make arrangements.

At approximately 4:20 p.m., the Borough issued a further statement, saying that "due to unforeseen circumstances", recycling in Zone 3 of Hawthorne would not be finished until Thursday morning.  The borough extended its apologies for the inconvenience.
