The Hawthorne Green Team is bringing Virtual Green Lecture ZOOM programs to support our community in learning about container gardening.

On Tuesday, June 23, 2020 at 7:30 pm Jack Sytsma of the Hawthorne Community Garden and Master Gardener will present a lecture entitled “Container Gardening for Everyone.”  Jack will speak about container gardening and give gardeners tips to help make their gardens successful as well as reviewing the different types of vegetables and herbs for planting. Included in the presentation is a YouTube Video “Container Gardening” by the American Heart Association.

Rayna Laiosa, Hawthorne Environmental Commission/Green Team Chair, will announce the Green Team Challenge “Container Gardening.”  Each participant will grow a vegetable or herb in a container.  Each participant will take photos of the growing progress and submit to the Hawthorne Environmental Commission email by September 1, 2020.  Prizes will be given to the participant who grows the most unusual plant and most bountiful herbs/vegetables either by weight (lbs.) or number of quantities.
