HAWTHORNE, NJ - Residents gathered at Paul's Motors on Goffle Road Saturday morning to pick up free trees.  The trees which were being given away for free came in a choice of cornelion cherry, persimmon, red bud, and willow oak seedlings, thanks to a six-year partnership between the Hawthorne Shade Tree Commission and NJ Tree Recovery Campaign.  The seedlings varied from 6" to 24".

Dria Lobosco and Al Ianacone, Commission Chair and Vice Chair respectively, were on hand with volunteers giving away the seedlings.  Those who attended wore masks or face coverings due to the continuing pandemic.  In addition to trees, the Shade Tree Commission also gave out tree care instructions, bags, and tee-shirts.

According to the Commission, there were approximately a thousand trees ready to be given out, and those left over would be given to the Hawthorne schools.
