HAWTHORNE, NJ - Three winners were announced for the Hawthorne Environmental Commission's "What I Love About Hawthorne" poster contest. The contest was, according to the Environmental Commission, "to create an awareness and appreciation of all Hawthorne has to offer."
The contestants were voted on by Hawthorne community members choosing "Like" or "Love" reactions on the Environmental Commission's Facebook page where the posters were displayed.
On Tuesday, August 18, the winners gathered at the parking lot of the Municipal Building to receive their prizes. They were also joined by Francesca and Lori Tomesco, owners of Sprinkles and More, to meet the first place winner.
First Prize went to Charlotte Sher "Why I Love Hawthorne!" Her poster garnered 92 votes and she won a $15 gift certificate to Puzo’s Family Restaurant and Sprinkles and More, a Recycled colored pencil, as well as a Hawthorne Chief of Police Richard McAuliffe baseball card.
Second Prize went to Hanna Tsao "I Love Hawthorne Farmer's Market" which gained 40 votes. She won a cloth reusable bag along with a $20 gift certificate to the Hawthorne Farmer's Market.
Third Prize went to Manna Tsao "We Love Hawthorne's Wildlife" which gained 33 votes. Manna won two wildlife photos taken by Green Team member Holly Cowen: baby deer and a family of ducks, as well as a $20 gift certificate to Stewart's Delicatessen in Hawthorne.
The Environmental Commission/Green Team said that the occasion can be seen on the Facebook Live section of their page. "The Commission is thankful for our participants in making it a learning experience for all," Rayna Laiosa, Commission Chairwoman said. "By being creative and sharing your feelings about your town will be inspiration to others to appreciate all that Hawthorne has to offer."
