FAIR LAWN, NJ - Police said they are prepared to respond this evening to questions about a rally and a protest march that occurred simultaneously on August 3 after they received "multiple inquiries," according to a posting on the department's Facebook page.
A Police and First Responder Rally occurred on August 3 with approximately 250 attendees. Rally members marched from Pollitt Drive to the Municipal Building along Fair Lawn Avenue. A separate march was organized as a shadow protest of the Rally, with about 50 individuals apparently affiliated with Black Lives Matter.
Police stated they "have received multiple inquiries in regards to the simultaneous organized marches that occurred on the evening of Monday, August 3rd. Questions and inquiries will be responded to during the public portion of the Borough Council meeting, to be held on the 2nd floor of the Fair Lawn Municipal Building, 8-01 Fair Lawn Avenue, on Tuesday, August 11th. The public portion of the meeting is scheduled to begin at 8pm."
The Borough Council is scheduled to meet this evening for its summer work session at 7 p.m. and its public session at 8 p.m. This Council has returned to is in-person meetings, with limitations, since borough hall reopened after the statewide COVID-19 pandemic shutdown in March.
According to NJ Executive Order No. 173, which limits conditions for public gatherings, the number of attendees at the meeting is limited to 25% of the capacity of the Council Chambers; attendees must wear face coverings at all times except where doing so would inhibit the individual’s health or where the individual is under two years of age; and attendees are required to be six feet apart from other attendees at all times, excluding a limited number of individuals organizing or maintaining the Work Session.
Individuals can attend virtually, as well via live streaming through the borough website: www.fairlawn.org/meeting OR watch the meeting on Fair Lawn TV on Cablevision Channel 77 or Verizon FiOS Channel 37.
