GLEN ROCK, NJ - A Bichon Frise, who broke free of his harness, died after a fight with a pitbull that grabbed him during a leashed walk along Dean Street.

The tragic event happened on August 21 at approximately noon when police responded to a 9-1-1 report of two dogs fighting, with a dog walker also injured. TYCO Animal Control was called to the scene and picked up the investigation. According to police, incidents of this nature are investigated by Animal Control in cooperation with Bergen County Health Services.

A preliminary investigation found that a 69-year-old Glen Rock man was walking a family member’s pit-bull when a small boy, who was also walking a dog approached, police said. As the boy approached, the dog he was walking broke loose from its harness and got away from him. Subsequently, the pit-bull grabbed ahold of the other dog. The man unsuccessfully attempted to pull the dogs apart and was bitten when he attempted to do so. The second dog, the Bichon Frise was found by the officers to be deceased.
