NORTH BRUNSWICK, NJ -- Dan Anderl, a 2018 graduate of Saint Joseph High School and the son of Federal Judge Esther Salas was shot and killed at his family's home in North Brunswick on Sunday evening, according to multiple media reports. Anderl, 20, was a rising junior at Catholic University.
Judge Salas's husband, Mark Anderl, 63, was also shot and critically wounded by a man reported to have been dressed as a Federal Express driver, according to the New Jersey Globe, which first reported the story. Mark Anderl, is a criminal defense attorney and a former Assistant Essex County Prosecutor. The New Jersey Globe reported that he is in critical but stable condition following surgery at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick.
Salas, the first Latina to serve as a federal judge in New Jersey, was nominated by President Barack Obama to serve as a District Court Judge in 2010. She achieved fame as the judge who sentenced “Real Housewives of New Jersey” stars Teresa Guidice and her husband, Joe, to prison. The Giudices were sentenced to 15 months and 41 months in prison, respectively, to prison terms for committing a string of crimes as part of a long-running financial fraud conspiracy.
Judge Salas in the past week was assigned to hear the upcoming civil case against Deutsche Bank over its relationship with Jeffrey Epstein, according to Bloomberg News.
