GLEN ROCK, NJ – Thanks to a great idea by a local resident and the combined efforts of local volunteers, Glen Rock is becoming more welcoming to the 1,000+ dogs--and their humans--who call Glen Rock home.
In addition to the eagerly awaited Glen Rock dog park, a multi-year effort founded and led by Michelle Hillock and her non-profit group and dedicated to the 9/11 Search and Rescue dogs, refreshing puppy pit stops are now popping up all over Glen Rock, including one at the site of the future dog park.
Glen Rock resident and local Keller Williams Real Estate agent Karen Ranno Boyle initiated the gesture. “We have to remember to stay hydrated on these hot summer days… and that includes our four-legged friends, too. I live in a neighborhood full of dogs; everyone is always out walking with them.
In addition to creating an adorable welcome sign and decorating a large water bowl which is filled with fresh water daily, Karen offered to do the same for anyone else in town that wanted to host a “puppy pit stop”. So far she’s made and delivered about 20 signs and bowls. Karen continued, “I just thought it was a good idea to offer some refreshment for the pups… and it caught on quite quickly! #puppypitstop It is nice to see. Spread the love!"
Eileen Maher Hillock, President of the Glen Rock Dog Park non-profit arranged to have one of Karen’s signs and personally decorated bowls placed at the site of the future dog park. Eileen shares, “Many people currently walk their dogs through the Arboretum. The end of the trail lets you out at the site of the future dog park, which is scheduled for opening this Fall. Glen Rock resident Rich Cervone of Cervone Plumbing and Heating will generously donate his services to provide running water at the dog park site. In the interim, we placed one of Karen’s signs and bowls along with two jugs of fresh water at the site to “pay it forward” and provide some refreshments for thirsty puppies during these dog days of summer!
