HAWTHORNE, NJ - The Hawthorne Police Department released a statement that applications are being accepted for those looking to join the force. 

The starting salary for a police officer was quoted as $42,873.00 and applicants are required to have a valid New Jersey driver's license, a high school diploma or a GED and a minimum of 60 college credits, and "NJ PTC certification as a fully sworn law enforcement officer, successful completion or is currently enrolled in an Alternate Route Police Academy class in New Jersey with a completion date prior to hiring."  Special Class II police officers were also being accepted, the police said.

Applications are available at the Hawthorne Police Headquarters in the Municipal Building at 445 Lafayette Avenue.  Applications must be turned in by hand to Chief Richard McAuliffe or his designee no later than Friday, March 27, 2020.
