HAWTHORNE, NJ - On Saturday, the Hawthorne Police Department held their bicycle registration program for residents wishing to better protect their property.
Sergeant Nedswick and Patrolman Vega sweltered in the heat engraving serial numbers onto bikes and recording the information for those who came to take advantage of the program at the Municipal Building parking lot. The registration began in 2016 and has been held on an every-other-year schedule since.
The program's purpose, according to the Police Department, was so that if a bicycle was stolen and later found, the serial number could be used to match it with its owner.
Free bicycle locks were given out during the course of the event.
