HAWTHORNE, NJ - On August 26, Hawthorne Police noticed a man leave the 7-Eleven on Wagaraw Road and walk "unsteadily" to his pickup truck, according to the Police Department.  The driver, a 40 year old man from Hawthorne, was then seen to commit a driving violation after turning onto the street.  He was pulled over on May Street and the officer speaking to him detected an odor of an alcoholic drink.

When asked for his driving credentials, he allegedly said that he had left his wallet at home.  When questioned if he had been drinking before driving, he was said to have admitted he had.  The officer conducted field sobriety tests, which the driver failed.  He was placed under arrest and taken to headquarters, charged with motor vehicle summonses and driving while intoxicated.  Afterwards, the driver was released pending a court date in the borough.
