HAWTHORNE, NJ - Early Friday afternoon, the Hawthorne Fire Department and Police responded to a call regarding an outdoor fire at a Lafayette Avenue address.  When they arrived, the source of the fire was not immediately visible, according to sources, and Fire Chief Joseph Speranza issued instructions to check behind the building on Fourth Avenue.

It was there the fire fighters found two trees and some bushes on fire.  The blaze was subdued with no reported damage to the home.  The trees and bushes, however, were destroyed.

The resident spoke with police and fire authorities and, at the time of this reporting, it was unknown what had caused the fire to begin.
