HAWTHORNE, NJ - With the retirement of Hawthorne Police Captain Jeffrey Vanderhook, Lieutenant Robert King was sworn in Tuesday to fill the position.  "It was with great confidence that I promoted Robert King to Captain," Mayor Richard Goldberg said.  "He has big shoes to fill because Captain Vanderhook was a tremendous asset to the police department."

The Hawthorne Police Department described Vanderhook's career as "stellar" and extended their congratulations to King on his promotion.

The swearing-in ceremony was held outside the Hawthorne Municipal Building with King's wife Jennifer, a teacher at Jefferson Elementary School, and their son, who held the Bible for his father while Mayor Goldberg administered the oath of office.  The occasion was marked by wearing face masks and the ceremony was conducted while observing social distancing behavior in light of the ongoing pandemic.
