HAWTHORNE, NJ - The bare steel replacement project undertaken by PSE&G in Hawthorne is almost complete.  The energy giant said in a statement that they "will be working in Hawthorne in 2020 to replace aging cast iron gas pipes with new, durable plastic and/or coated steel piping – ensuring the continued safety and reliability of our gas system well into the future.  Work will take place Monday through Friday between the hours of 7 a.m. and 5 p.m., with the potential for Saturday work."

This announcement was followed by a list of streets that, as of February 18, listed only 17th Street as being still underway.  The affected sections being along the northern side of Washington Elementary School, from Westervelt Avenue and to East Prospect Street.  As such, motorists can expect detours when work is being conducted.
