HAWTHORNE, NJ - Paul Pagnozzi of Hawthorne is a fan of the Green Bay Packers, maybe even their biggest fan, and as such he hopes to win it big with his team's FAN Hall of Fame contest. Pagnozzi was selected as one of ten finalists named to be an honorary 21st member of the Green Bay Packers FAN Hall of Fame, according to a statement from the team. Of the ten, seven hail from the Dairy State, one is from Texas, and one from Idaho. The east coast in its entirety is represented by Hawthorne's own Paul Pagnozzi.
The key to the finalists' ultimate win? Packers fans themselves must cast their votes by midnight on January 31, 2019, by logging on to www.packers.com/fanhof or, alternatively, casting a paper ballot at the Guest Services Desk at the Lambeau Field Atrium. The winner will be announced in February and receive a prize package. Pagnozzi, with enough votes, could score four club seats to a Packers home game this year, a Packers Pro Shop gift certificate valued at $500.00, a year's subscription to Packer Plus, and a road trip for two, including tickets, air travel, and hotel to an away game. In addition, the winner's name will join those of past FAN Hall of Fame honorees found in the Packers Hall of Fame.
The process of determining the winner is three-fold, decided by the votes of the Packers fans themselves, past honorees, and lastly the Packers Committee. There is an incentive for fans to vote for their choice, as the voters could win team merchandise through a random drawing.
The Packers FAN Hall of Fame are sponsored by Robert Haack Diamonds and the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
"The first professional football team to have a hall of fame, the Green Bay Packers enhanced that distinction in 1998 by establishing a Packers FAN Hall of Fame," the team's statement read. "It was founded for the purpose of annually honoring a devout and longtime Packers fan. Packers fans were asked to nominate themselves or a friend for the honor with an essay of 500 words or less, accompanied by a photo, explaining why he or she should be recognized. From those nominations, 10 finalists were selected by the Packers FAN Hall of Fame selection committee."
The ten finalists listed were as follows:
- Amy Nelson – Mayville, Wis.
- Dennis Willey – Houston, Texas
- Li Hu – Oshkosh, Wis.
- Scott Cagle – Suamico, Wis.
- Steve Sexmith – Appleton, Wis.
- Charlie Younkle – Green Bay, Wis.
- Chuck Bromley, Middleton, Idaho
- Brent Perzentka – Madison, Wis.
- Ron Colbo – De Pere, Wis.
- Paul Pagnozzi – Hawthorne, NJ
