16th Seed Hillsborough Girls Upset No. 1 East Brunswick in Group 4 Tournament


EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ - The East Brunswick girls basketball team entered the Central Jersey, Group 4 state tournament as the top seed in the section, but 16th-seeded Hillsborough High School came from behind to score a 45-41 upset on the Bears in the opening round Tuesday night.

Hillsborough (11-13) outscored East Brunswick, 15-8, in the third quarter to open a 36-28 lead. East Brunswick (20-4) had defeated Hillsborough, 45-30, in the regular season.

Alyssa Bondi scored 14 points and Nicole Johnson connected for 13 points for East Brunswick, which suffered three of its four losses this season at the hands of teams from Somerset County (Bridgewater-Raritan, Ridge and Hillsborough).
