5 Hillsborough Students Compete in County Spelling Bee

BRIDGEWATER, NJ - Five students from three of Hillsborough's public schools competed in the recent Somerset County Library System of New Jersey Spelling Bee.

The competition was held at the Somerset County Vocational and Technical School.

There were 63 competitors, includingTarun Nadhamuni, Grade 4, Amsterdam Elementary School; Shaan Lodhia, Grade 4, Woods Road Elementary School; Freddie Gordon, Grade 5, Auten Road Intermediate School; Ananya, Srinivasan, Grade 6, Auten Road Intermediate School and Gautam Ramakrishnan, Grade 3, Amsterdam Elementary School.

The wiinner of the 3rd annual event was, seventh-grader Aashi Mishra of Valley View School in Watchung, who won by correctly spelling the word “acharya.”

She will attend the 2018 Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C. at the Library System’s expense.
