Americans for Prosperity Applauds Bramnick for Holding Line on Gas Tax

Americans for Prosperity commends Assembly Minority Leader Jon Bramnick (R-21) for his leadership in holding the line on a gas tax until the majority party can muster up 52 votes.

“Leader Bramnick is right to say his caucus should not cast a single vote for a gas tax until the majority is able to show they have a consensus in the assembly,” said AFP state director Erica Jedynak. “He’s also right to express concern about a bait and switch on the estate tax unless there is a ‘poison pill’ included that prevents the repeal from being suspended.”

“New Jersey taxpayers are already revolting against a gas tax and this bad deal does them no favors. It’s time for leaders on the other side to show if they have a full deck of cards,” said Jedynak. “Let’s see if they have the 52 votes. As of now that consensus doesn’t exist.”

Last week, Assembly Transportation Committee Chair Jon Wisniewski (D-19) announced he opposed the swap of a gas tax hike for an estate tax repeal. Assembly,an Robert Andrzejczak (D-1st) and Assemlyman R. Bruce Land (D-1st) have also sponsored a constitutional amendment, ACR-51, which would expressly prohibit the “the Legislature from enacting any law that imposes a tax on the sale of motor fuels” above the current rate.
