BRIDGEWATER, NJ - The Amish Outlaws will park their buggy at Duke Island Park Sunday evening, July 22 for a free concert sponsored by the Somerset County Park Commission.
The show begins at 7 p.m. at the Duke Island Park band shell on Old York Road in Bridgewater.
Guests are invited to bring lawn chairs and picnic baskets.
The Amish Outlaws will perform a variety of music, an eclectic 90-minute set that will feature covers of popular songs by Johnny Cash, Lady Gaga, Pitbull, Elvis Presley and others.
The Amish practice a tradition called "Rumspringa" in which teens have an opportunity to live free of Amish life before deciding if they want to be baptized into the Amish church. Most all of the youth return. But sometimes they don't.
Four of the six members of The Amish Outlaws were born and raised in Lancaster, Pa. and had a strict Amish upbringing. During their Rumspringa they fell in love with music. It was this love of music that brought them together in 2002 and they have been performing ever since.
The Summer Free Concert series will continue on Sunday, July 29 at 7 p.m. featuring Garden State Radio.
