BRIDGEWATER, NJ - A Bridgewater resident was arrested in Pennsylvania and extradited in connection with a carjacking in a corporate parking deck in Bridgewater July 18.
Cody Masiello, 18, was extradited and lodged in the Somerset County Jail with bail to be set.
According to Acting Somerset County Prosecutor Michael Robertson, on July 18, Bridgewater Township Police received a 911 call about a carjacking in a corporate parking deck. Officers spoke to the victim, who said that while he was seated in his car, two men approached him.
Robertson said the victim described one as a black male and the other as a white or Hispanic male. The black male, Robertson said, knocked on the driver's side door window and ordered the victim to exit his vehicle while pointing a black handgun at his head.
When the victim exited the vehicle, Robertson said, both suspects entered it and fled in the car.
Masiello and a juvenile were identified as the men responsible for the armed carjacking, and the juvenile was arrested at his home July 29.
On Aug. 5 at 5:45 p.m., Robertson said, troopers with the Pennsylvania State Police Swiftwater Patrol Unit responded to a residence in Saylorsburg, Pennsylvania, and Masiello was arrested and lodged in the Monroe County Jail.
On Aug. 10, Robertson said, Masiello waived extradition back to New Jersey.
Masiello was taken to New Jersey by detectives assigned to the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office Fugitive Task Force Aug. 17.
