Carolann Garafola Honored with 25th Annual Millicent Fenwick Award

WARREN, NJ - The Somerset County Federation of Republican Women has named Carolann Garafola recipient of the 25th annual Millicent Fenwick Award.

She will be presented with the prestigious award at a dinner in her honor on Wednesday, May 31 at the Bridgewater Manor, 1251 Route 202/206, Bridgewater beginning at 5:30 p.m.

The award, granted for Distinguished Public Service, is presented annually and acknowledges and recognizes those women who have dedicated their lives to providing outstanding public service to others and ensures the Federation’s intent to ensure that the achievements of these women are recorded in history.

Millicent Fenwick, the awards’ namesake, was a special person in New Jersey and in Congressional history.  Always the lady, she was an effective leader in New Jersey and in Congress, and became known for the work she did and the unique person she was.

Garafola’s strengths mirror those of Fenwick,  including dedication to family, self-reliance, high integrity, industriousness, strong work ethic, business acumen, free enterprise, capitalism, volunteerism, good character and stalwart Republican principles that respected freedom from intrusive government.

A Warren  Township  elected official since 1996, is also a 2017 recipient of the Elected Officials Hall of Fame by the NJ League of Municipalities; an award presented for holding public office for 20 consecutive years.  In 2011, she received ‘Principal of the Year’ from the New Jersey Council of Administrators in Special Education.  In 2011 and 1992 she had been honored by the Somerset County Commission on the Status of Women for “Leadership in Government” and “Leadership in Education” respectively. She also held office on the Warren Board of Education from 1989 to 1991.

She is the executive director of Mt. Bethel Village, LLC; an apartment community for adults with autism, developmental disabilities or traumatic brain Injuries and has earned several degrees, in addition to Doctoral Course Work in Educational-Administration, Master of Arts Degree in Speech Pathology, and Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Education/Speech Pathology.

She is also celebrating 25 years of marriage to her husband, Ralph Garafola, an internationally known portrait artist.
