BRIDGEWATER, NJ - Community Cars Somerset is a new transportation service that will use volunteer drivers to provide rides to senior citizens and persons with disabilities in Somerset County.
RideWise is collaborating with another New Jersey transportation management association, EZ Ride, to launch the service sometime in late summer or early fall..
RideWise has started training volunteer drivers and is testing the program by providing a small number of rides in anticipation of the pilot program's launch.
“Volunteers are the key to the success of this program. They give families and caregivers peace of mind by providing a safe and comfortable ride for loved ones, in a reliable vehicle leased from EZ Ride,” said Donna Allison, executive director.
Once the program officially starts, there will be daytime, evening and weekend driving opportunities to fit any schedule. Volunteers can accept driving assignments when it’s convenient for them.
Residents interested in becomng a volunteer driver can contact Lauren Powelson, program coordinator at 908-704-1011 ext. 17.
