WARREN, NJ - The law firm of DiFrancesco, Bateman, Kunzman, Davis, Lehrer & Flaum, P. C. is celebrating 100 years of providing legal services to the people of New Jersey.
With 35 attorneys and 20 staff members, the firm is a broad general practice which includes representation of individuals, public entities, insurance companies, land developers, financial institutions and local businesses, as well as International Fortune 100 and 500 corporations.
The firm has offices in Warren (Somerset County), Clifton (Passaic County) and Newton (Sussex County).
“Our firm was founded in 1917 when my grandfather, Irving Kunzman, opened his office in Plainfield,” said attorney Steven Kunzman. “Irving’ s younger brother, Ira, joined the firm upon his admission to the New Jersey Bar and, in the 1950s, my father, Edwin, joined.” Following in the footsteps of his grandfather and father, Steve joined the firm in 1981.
Donald DiFrancesco, then president of the New Jersey Senate, and later becoming Governor of the State of New Jersey, joined the firm in 1992. “When you’ re together as a firm for 100 years, and you’ve grown the way this firm has grown,” DiFrancesco said, “it shows great stability, great cohesion, and the ability to build consensus among partners to get along and grow the business.”
DiFrancesco continued: “All of those factors have been prevalent in DiFrancesco Bateman throughout the years. We are doing well, and we are a team. As long as we treat our firm as a team, we will continue to grow and continue to be together as we have in the past 100 years.”
When Christopher “Kip” Bateman joined the firm in 1994, he was serving as a member of the New Jersey General Assembly. In 2008, he went on to become a member of the New Jersey State Senate where he has continuously served the people of New Jersey for the past nine years. “I am honored to be a member of a law firm which has proudly and efficiently served the community and clients for more than 100 years,”Bateman said.
“I am most fortunate to have spent almost 24 years among an amazing group of men and women and could not be prouder to be celebrating this milestone with my partners.”
Other principals of the firm, Jeffrey Lehrer and Richard Flaum, joined the firm in 1990 and 1989, respectively.
The firm continues to grow and diversify its practice in areas such as insurance law, municipal law, litigation, employment and labor law, school law and special education law, zoning and land use, environmental law, personal injury and wills, trusts and estates.
"Our firm has not grown or thrived by accident,” said Stephen Davis, who joined the firm in 1985 and serves as the firm's Managing Partner. "From the moment the firm was founded, it has followed a simply philosophy: our attorneys and staff focus on being the kind of people we want to work with . . . people who are kind, gracious, occasionally funny, and considerate of clients and colleagues”.
"This idea permeates everything we do,” Davis continued, “from the way we give advice to the way we draft documents. We think the founding members of the firm would be very proud to see the firm they built thriving while still adhering to this original philosophy after 100 years."
