WARREN, NJ –  A 14-year old boy was killed and a 17-year old boy is charged with vehicular homicide following a high-speed chase involving a car stolen in Warren.

Both juveniles are from Newark.

The 17-year old has been charged with 2nd degree Death by Auto, 2nd degree Eluding, 2nd degree Knowingly leaving the scene of a motor vehicle crash, 3rd degree Motor Vehicle Theft and 3rd degree Unlawful Taking a Means of Conveyance, according to Somerset County Prosecutor Michael H. Robertson.

Robertson provided the following account:

Warren Police responded to the area of Ashwood Court at 1 a.m. Aug. 3 to investigate a report of suspicious persons.

A vehicle was seen leaving the area of Skyline Drive and when police attempted to pull over the vehicle, the driver took off at a high rate of speed. Police followed the vehicle into Bernards Township. 

While on Martinsville Road in Bernards Township, the vehicle left the roadway, overturned and rolled, striking a utility pole. The 14-year-old was ejected and subsequently transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead. 

He has been identified as Alexis Pabon,of Newark.

The cause and manner of Pabon’s death is pending an autopsy that will be performed by the New Jersey Regional Medical Examiner Office in Newark. 

The 17-year old, also from from Newark,  fled the accident scene on foot and was captured a short distance away by police. He was also transported to an area hospital with injuries sustained from the motor vehicle crash and listed in stable condition. 

The Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Team conducted a follow-up investigation with the Warren Township Police Department and the Bernards Township Police Department, according to Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Chief of County Detectives John W. Fodor, Warren Township Chief of Police William Keane and Bernards Township Chief of Police Michael Shimsky
