BRIDGEWATER, NJ – Trailing 3-0 in the eighth inning, the Somerset Patriots (35-26, 73-58) rallied for four runs to defeat the New Britain Bees (31-30, 67-64) 4-3 on Friday evening at TD Bank Ballpark.

Aharon Eggleston got Somerset on the board with a solo home run (8) to lead off the inning.

“We always battle. It seems that has been the key lately where we battle with the starting pitcher to get his pitch count up and then that’s where we do the most work against the bullpen,” said Eggleston.

The Patriots then loaded the bases for Kyle Roller, who plated a run on an RBI groundout. An error by second baseman Steve Carrillo on Carlos Guzman’s at bat allowed two runs to score and give the Patriots a 4-3 win.

“You hope that you can string it together and get a big hit. They made a few mistakes out there too, but I think we hit the ball well also,” said Somerset Patriots manager Brett Jodie. “ I was very happy with how we battled, how we didn’t give up, and just the overall energy and attitude in the dugout.”

The Bees jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning on a two-run home run by Greg Golson (3).

New Britain extended the lead with a run in the second inning on a Carrillo RBI single that made the score 3-0.

Jeremy Bleich (2-2) earned the win with a scoreless inning. Rob Bryson (2-3) suffered the loss, allowing four runs (one earned) without recording an out. Jon Hunton earned his 36th save of the season with a perfect ninth inning pitched.

The 2016 Somerset Patriots season continues at home on Saturday night with a 7:05 pm game against the New Britain Bees. The game features a Post Game Fireworks Show and a Gold Jersey Auction presented by Team Campbell Foundation.
