Emily Van Pelt Realizes Her Vision for a “Field of Dreams” in Hillsborough

HILLSBOROUGH, NJ - Through hard work, dedication and perseverance, Emily Van Pelt realized the vision she had for her “Field of Dreams.”

The Township Committee honored her at its meeting Tuesday night with a proclamation detailing her efforts to develop a youth hockey program in the township.

The project satisfied the requirements for her Girl Scout Gold Award.

A senior at Hillsborough High School, she worked in collaboration with the township Parks and Recreation Department to implement the program.

She also wrote a proposal and obtained a grant from USA Field Hockey to purchase 24 sticks, balls, cones and a curriculum guide for the program and with adult supervision, hosted two clinics for girls and boys to increase their skills.

She was presented with a proclamation by Mayor Frank DelCore, which reads, in part:

“Emily serves as an example to the youth of Hillsborough Township through her achievements, leadership, and community service, and we are very proud that Emily is a member of our community.”

She will attend Kean University in the fall.
