Former Hillsborough HS Quarterback Throws 5 TD Passes, Garners Offensive Award Second Week in a Row

TROY, NY- Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute quarterback Edward Trimpert, a 2015 graduate of Hillsborough High School, is ripping up the opponents' defenses in the Liberty League and has been selected Offensive Performer of the Week by the Liberty League after throwing five TD passes in a Division III win over Worcester Polytechnic Institute. 

The junior quarterback completed 11 of 17 passes for a career-high 234 yards and five touchdowns - to five different receivers - to earn Liberty League Offensive Performer of the Week for the second straight week.

The former Raiders quarterback was not intercepted and finished with three rushing yards. Trimpert gave the Engineers a 14-0 lead late in the first quarter with touchdown passes of 5 and 26 yards, the latter on a fourth-and-three play. He added a 33-yard scoring pass in the third quarter for a 22-7 lead before connecting for 15 yards early in the fourth quarter for a 29-7 edge. Trimpert's fifth TD of the game - and seventh of the season - came from 10 yards and put the visitors in front 36-7 with 4:51 left in the game.

In total, six different receivers caught passes. In the season opener the week before, Trimpert led the Engineers to a 45-0 victory over William Paterson University by completing 11 of 14 passes for 161 yards and two touchdowns. He threw a four-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter for a 14-0 lead and then a 45-yard scoring strike in the third for a 31-0 edge.

He was neither intercepted, nor sacked and he also rushed six times for 31 yards, including a long of 15 yards. Last season, Trimpert, a mechanical engineering major, started seven games before suffering an injury. He completed 44 of 93 (47.3%) passes for 497 yards and five touchdowns with three interceptions. He also rushed 49 times for 108 yards and two scores.

RPI (2-0) returns to action this Saturday when it hosts Western New England University in the first-ever meeting between the two programs. Kickoff is noon at East Campus Stadium.
