HILLSBOROUGH, NJ - The township will follow tradition once again this year, holding its July 4th celebration several days in advance,
Saturday night’s festivities begin at 5 p.m. at The Auten Road School field.
The June 30 fireworks display is one of the first to occur in the central New Jersey region.
Free shuttle buses will run between Auten Road School and Hillsborough High School where residents are encouraged to park. Shuttle bus service will also be available at the end of the night.
The fireworks display will begin at dusk.
Residents are also invited to the Somerset County fireworks display on July 4th, which will be held at North Branch Park on Milltown Road in Bridgewater.
Admission is free.
Gates will open at 6 p.m. Families are invited to bring lawn chairs, blankets and picnic baskets. Alcohol is prohibited. Food vendors will be scattered throughout the park.
The fireworks display will begin at 9:30 p.m. Visitors should plan to arrive early.
Milltown Road will be closed at approximately 9 p.m. Heavy car and foot traffic is expected.
Personal fireworks are not allowed.
Milltown Road will remain closed at the conclusion of the fireworks for 30 minutes to one hour while local neighborhood pedestrians walk from the park.
Bridgewater Police will be on hand to assist park staff with traffic flow. Updates will be available on the Activity Hotline at 908-722-1200, ext. 5351.
The Somerset Patriots will also host a Patriotic Weekend Friday, July 6th and Saturday, July 7th with fireworks following both games.
The July 6th game is sponsored by Operation Shoebox New Jersey and will also feature an auction of commemorative game-used uniforms to raise funds to help pay for the shipment of personal care packages to US troops deployed around the world..
