HILLSBOROUGH, NJ - Local historian and author Rikki Lyn Hauss begins a new chapter of her life as an advocate for the colorful family history of Doris Duke on Monday, Dec. 11 with her inaugural "Evening with The Author" at the Hillsborough public library from 7-8:30 p.m.

The event kicks off a year of lectures and discussions about her book, the Duke legacy and future endeavors related to the Duke family.

"The Duchess of South Somerville" was written by Hauss in response to the grassroots movement DORIS (Demolition of Residence is Senseless) that challenged the demolition of the Duke Mansion in 2015 on the grounds of Duke Farms along Route 206. Hauss, 23, was the youngest member of the group and has now founded Operation ORCHID, to complete the gaps in available history related to the Dukes, their vast wealth, lineage and residences.

"I must have a sprinkle of old eccentric spirit in me somewhere," Hauss explains. "I intend to carry on as much of Duke's legacy as I am able. Whether through writing, lecturing, or advocating, I feel like this is where I belong."

Hauss will be offering signed copies of her book for purchase. Her presentation will conclude with a Q&A session. She will be outlining her book and its inspirations, as well as what comes next for the estate and the stories.

The event  will be held in the library's Conference Room AB at the municipal complex, 379 South Branch Road.
