HILLSBOROUGH, NJ - Police, firefighters and other emergency personnel descended on the township's Public Works facility on East Mountain Road Friday on a report of a an active shooter in the building Friday morning.
But, it was only a drill.
The exercise began at 8 a.m. and involved the Hillsborough Township Police Department, the Office of Emergency Management, Hillsborough Bureau of Fire Safety, Hillsborough Township Volunteer Fire Departments, the Rescue Task Force, Somerville Police Department, Franklin Township Police Department, County Communications and RWJ-EMS.
The Department of Public Works facility was chosen since this location had never been used before for this type of drill.
Previous drills have been held at the municipal complex and Auten Road School.
In addition to having the DPW employees being able to participate, any new Township employees who had been hired since the last drill were able to participate in this valuable training. This training, conducted in a similar manner as ones in the past, focused on awareness and response of both first responders and employees.
