HILLSBOROUGH, NJ - Students, teachers, administrators, staff and guests at Woods Road Elementary School wound up a year-long 50th anniversary celebration viewing a documentary video that took them on a journey through time.
Students had been working for several weeks to learn the song, “Celebrate Good Times,” sung to the tune of “Celebration.” Pictures in the video provided a timeline for the students to compare who they are and what they do in school with the activities that were popular during several decades in the 20th century.
Then the students began to dance through the decades as each grade was assigned a decade and a special dance from that time period.
The preschoolers did the Twist, while the third graders declared it to be the 90’s and “Hammer Time,” as cheering erupted in the cafeteria.
To commemorate the school’s 50th birthday celebration, all those in attendance were invited to decorate a mural with their thumbprint. Once completed, the mural will be hung in the hallway outside of the music room of Woods Road Elementary School.
“Certainly our world has changed since 1967, but our values and dedication to education have not changed,” Jodi Howe, school principal. “At Woods Road, we see students displaying their character each day, dedicated staff who support every student and their peers, and we are truly able to say that Woods Road School is a great place to be.”
