HILLSBOROUGH, NJ - It seems nearly everyone has a “New Year’s resolution,” but statistics indicate that less than a quarter of these resolutions are kept.

To help keep those personal goals real, the Hillsborough YMCA and other Y locations in Somerset County invites community members to visit for a tour and join the Y during their “Gear Up” for the New Year week, Jan.1-7, 2017.

Creating personal change takes effort, and support. To encourage individuals and families to make their resolutions a reality, YMCAs across the state annually come together to promote healthy living in their individual communities.

The Y promise is that when people are engaged in YMCA programs and memberships, children learn what they can achieve, families spend quality time together, and build relationships that deepen a sense of belonging — the foundation of community.

During the first week of January, new members who join one of Somerset County YMCA’s branches – Bridgewater YMCA, Hillsborough YMCA, Somerset Hills YMCA or Somerville YMCA – will receive one free “Gear Up” t-shirt and be entered to win a GPS smartwatch with heart rate monitor.

Additionally, Somerset County YMCA joins YMCAs across the state to hold an Open House, Jan. 7. On that day, anyone who visits the Y, members and guests alike, will be entered to win a three-month membership.

“The Y is a community that supports individuals and families in reaching their goals,” said David M. Carcieri, president and CEO of Somerset County YMCA. “Y staff and volunteers are genuine about helping members to live healthy, fulfilling and connected lives. When you join the Y, you do more than simply become healthier. You support the values and programs that strengthen your community.”
