BASKING RIDGE, NJ- Rock the Barn at the Ross Farm returns on Sunday, May 21. The Rad Trads, one of New York City’s most entertaining live bands, take the stage outside the historic barn in Basking Ridge for the third annual event. The concert begins at 5 p.m., with the gates opening at 4 p.m. for everyone to come early and enjoy the beautiful grounds at the Farm. The Minuteman Smokehouse will be selling their award-winning barbecue and ribs, along with sides, soft drinks and dessert.

The Rad Trads bring their love of the game to a diverse style of soulful American music, with influences ranging from early jazz to New Orleans brass band, R&B, the Chicago and delta blues, and rock & roll. Featuring three powerful horns, a driving rhythm section, and three captivating lead vocalists, The Rad Trads consistently win over audiences with their relentless energy, charisma, and enthusiasm. The band performs regularly in New York City at Brooklyn Bowl, Webster Hall, The Blue Note, BB King’s and Radegast Hall when not touring across the USA and Europe. The Rad Trads have played on four continents, in 14 countries and 32 U.S. states, headlining tours and opening for acts such as Tom Jones, Charles Bradley, Buddy Guy, Taj Mahal, The Lone Bellow, Con Brio, and Dustbowl Revival. Recent tour highlights included main stage performances at the Atlanta Jazz, Rochester Jazz, Columbus Jazz & Ribs festivals, and the Russian River Jazz & Blues festival opening for Taj Mahal and Buddy Guy, as well as a monthlong European festival tour featuring notable collaborations in Italy with Paolo Fresu.

The first Rock the Barn concert, in 2015, marked the beginning of live music in line with The Friends of the Boudinot-Southard-Ross Estate’s mission of creating educational and cultural events that enhance the public’s understanding of the historical legacy of the estate and the contributions of the Elias Boudinot, Samuel Southard and Edmund Ross families. Another 12 concerts, staged in the barn, on the Tack House patio, and in the Music Room over the past three years have brought hundreds of people to the Farm to enjoy the experience of authentic live music in a unique setting. This year, the FoBSR is grateful for the support of our business sponsors, including Atelier Salon, Back to Nature Home and Garden, Bobi Commer of Coldwell Banker, The Café @ Liberty Cycle, Concert Audio, Couch Braunsdorf Insurance, Country Mile Gardens, Crawford Academics, Minuteman Restaurant, Mockingbird Café, Safety & Aquatic Solutions, TAPinto Basking Ridge, TrueLeaf Kitchens and Tull’s Foreign Auto Body. The new Band of Friends program also provided early support for the 2017 music series. More concerts are coming this season; “like” The Ross Farm – Basking Ridge on Facebook, or visit the website at RossFarm.org to check out the schedule and sign up for a newsletter.

Some seating will be available for the Rock the Barn concert, but guests are invited to bring their own folding chairs or blankets. This is an outdoor concert, so guests may also want to consider mosquito protection. A donation of $20 for adults and $10 for students is suggested and may either be given in advance via PayPal at www.rossfarm.org/event/rock-the-barn-2017/ or at the door. The Ross Farm is located at 135 N. Maple Ave. This event is hosted by the Friends of the Boudinot-Southard-Ross Estate, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization.
