SOMERVILLE, NJ - Hundreds of New Jersey volunteer firefighters, friends and family gathered in the staging area on Veterans Memorial Drive late Saturday afternoon stringing lights, inflating blow-up figures and decorating their trucks for the annual Somervillle Firefighters Holiday Lights parade.
Though fewer in number this year because of the COVID-19 pandemic, those trucks that did participate lit up the town and blasted their horns to announce Santa's arrival.
Main Street was lined with families for the annual event that kicks off the holiday season.
The parade began at Somerville Fire Co. #1 and headed down East Main Street, past the Historic SomersetCounty Courthouse, through the downtown restaurant and shopping district, and turned onto Mountain Avenue after passing Borough Hall. The parade continued through Somerville's neighborhoods beforel returning to the firehouse.
