NY Man Pulled from Raritan River at Duke Island Park, Dies at Hospital

BRIDGEWATER, NJ - A 52-year-old New York man was pulled from the Raritan River near Duke Island Park Wednesday and died 8 hours later in the hospital,  according to Bridgewater Township Police.

Fermin Franco of Valley Stream, N.Y.,  was pronounced dead shortly after midnight July 5 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in Somerset, police said.

Police were called at 4:04 p.m. Wednesday responding to a report of a possible drowning,; they entered the river near Duke Island Park and recovered Franco.

Officers began CPR and all lifesaving protocols before Bradley Gardens Fire Department, Bradley Gardens Rescue Squad and Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Paramedics arrived  and continued providing aid until Franco was taken to the hospital, according to police

The incident is still under investigation.

Somerset County Issues ID Cards to Gold Star Parents

SOMERVILLE, NJ – The Somerset County Clerk's Office is issuing Gold Star Parent ID cards to biological parents, legal guardians and other legal custodians of members of the armed forces who died while on active duty for the United States.
