WARREN, NJ - The Warren Lions Club launched its first packing event for Operation Shoebox New Jersey on Saturday at the Warren Middle School. Members of the community participated in this special event to assemble the gift packages to be sent to our troops. The cost of shipping these boxes to the troops is funded by donations from the Warren Lion’s club, other organizations, and caring members of the public.
Operation Shoebox New Jersey is based in Hillsborough.
“I was honored to speak at the Operation Shoebox event sponsored by the Warren Lions Club,” said Warren Township Mayor Vic Sordillo. “There were about 200 volunteers filling boxes of gifts for our troops. In the pictures, you can see the crowd of volunteers working, the president and event leader of the Lions Club,Adriane Stewart and Bill Bartnick, Carolann Garafola, and the Founder/Executive Director Rod Hirsch.”
The mission of the Warren Lions Club is to empower volunteers to serve their communities, meet humanitarian needs, encourage peace, and promote international understanding through Lions clubs. Their motto is “WE SERVE.”
Operation Shoebox New Jersey was founded on Feb. 3, 2005, and has packed and shipped over 139,000 care packages since its inception. The statewide organization has never had to purchase any of the contents that go into the boxes, relying on schools, churches, civic groups, senior citizen organization and companies large and small.
Operation Shoebox New Jersey travels throughout the state, working with schools, churches, companies and civic organizations to host packing events.
