SOMERVILLE, NJ - Same scam, new phone number.

The same scammers who identify themselves as Somerset County Sheriff's Department Deputies are continuing to make bogus phone calls, but are using a new phone number - (908) 223-8954, according to Somerset County Sheriff Frank Provenzano.

The scammers tell unsuspecting residents that they have an active warrant for them not reporting for jury duty. The scammers then request that you purchase money cards or vouchers from kiosks or over the counter and provide them with the account numbers from the money cards or vouchers.

"Once again, the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office does not have DEPUTIES, our front line personnel are SHERIFF’s OFFICERS and do not satisfy warrants over the telephone with payments made by purchasing a voucher or money card," Provenzano said..

Anyone receiving such a call about a warrant should advise the caller you will call them back on the main number for the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office (908-231-7140).  All calls from the Somerset  County Sheriff’s Office can be easily verified by calling the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office at the same number.
