FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP, NJ - Alerted by a 911 call reporting gunfire, police found a 27-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound on Village Drive, the same street where he lived, according to Somerset County Prosecutor Michael H. Robertson.
Lifesaving efforts were made by police and emergency medical personnel who transported the victim to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Chief of County Detectives John W. Fodor and Franklin Township Public Safety Director Quovella M. Spruill.
The victim was identified as Raphael Edwards of Village Drive, Franklin Park, according to Robertson.
The 911 call was logged on July 7 at 11:52 p.m.
Detectives from the Franklin Township Police Department, the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit, and the Crime Scene Investigations Unit are conducting an investigation.
Preliminary findings are that the shooting was an isolated incident. Investigators are attempting to establish a motive, Robertson added.
An autopsy is scheduled to be performed by the Northern Regional Medical Examiner’s Office to determine the cause and manner of death.
