Police Say Hillsborough Suspect Stole Woman’s Car While She Worshipped in Church

SOMERSET, NJ - A Hillsborough man is charged with stealing car keys from a woman while she worshipped in church and driving away in her car.

A complaint warrant filed in Superior Court in Somerville identifies Gibson L. McNamara, 18, of Maple Terrace as the suspect. Police say the suspect took keys from the unidentified 19-year-old woman while she was at the Calvary Community Church on Sunday, May 6 and drove away in her 2010 Black Nissan.

McNamara is charged with motor vehicle theft, resisting arrest and possesion of a controlled dangerous substance, according to Franklin Township Police.

The suspect was later apprehended by police at the Park Apartments on Winston Drive after fleeing from the stolen vehicle, according to the complaint. 

Police say they found marijuana and promethazine on McNamara; he did not have a prescription for either, according to the complaint.
