RARITAN, NJ - The annual John Basilone Parade marched through Raritan Sunday to honor the legacy of the late Marine.
Basilone, of Raritan, received the Medal of Honor for his service during the Battle for Henderson Field in the Guadalcanal Campaign, and the Navy Cross posthumously for heroism during the Battle of Iwo Jima. He was the only enlisted Marine to receive both honors for World War II.
The parade headed down Somerset Street, with veterans, scouts, local bands and more remembering Basilone.
The parade ended at the John Basilone statue with speakers and a reenactment of the flag raising at Iwo Jima.
