BRIDGEWATER, NJ - The Dance Department at Somerset County Vocational & Technical High School will be holding two programs during the upcoming summer break.
The Tap Intensive will be for students ages 10 to 15, and the Dance Intensive will be for students ages 10 to 14. Both programs are held in the air-conditioned studios of Somerset County Vocational & Technical High School.
The Tap Intensive will feature guest teachers who augment the professional experience that dancers receive while studying over the summer. SCVTHS faculty member Mary Lynne McAnally will lead the camp with the exploration of Broadway, rhythm and kick line tap styles.
Students will work on defining rhythm and clarity of sound. Students will also learn about the history of tap dance by guest artist Hillary-Marie, who serves as the artistic director of the Jersey Tap Fest.
Guest artist and Dance Department alumnus Liz Carroll, also a member of the New Jersey Tap Ensemble, will be setting a dance work in the Rhythm Tap style.
The Tap Intensive will run from July 18 to 22 (9 a.m. to 3 p.m.) for students ages 10 to 14, at a cost of $325 per child.
The annual Dance Intensive is a week of technique classes in modern, jazz and ballet. All dancers will learn basic composition tools and concepts, as well as learning repertory from dance professionals. The camp is an excellent time for students to focus on improving dance technique and refining style of movement.
A guest artist will be setting a dance work during the week.
The Dance Intensive will run from July 25 to 29 (9 a.m. – 3 p.m.) for students ages 10 to 14 at a cost of $325 per child.
