“The purpose of the awards program is to recognize the people and organizations in our community that go above and beyond to raise public awareness of the fine and performing arts,” said Levine, who serves as the freeholders' liason to the commission.

Nomination forms are available by visiting http://bit.ly/SCExcellArts or by contacting Kaitlin Bundy at bundy@co.somerset.nj.us or (908) 231-7000, ext. 7246. - Arts in the Community: Nominees for this category should be dedicated individuals, corporations or local organizations that support the fine or performing arts through innovative programming, outstanding vision and leadership, a dedication to arts access and outreach, exemplary partnerships, volunteerism or philanthropy.

- Aspiring Young Artist: Nominate a Somerset County high school or college student who demonstrates excellence in the fine or performing arts, aspires to a career in the arts and is a role model of good citizenship. One young artist will be selected to receive a $1,000 scholarship from the Friends of Somerset County Cultural & Heritage.

Award recipients will be honored at an April 19 ceremony at the Green Brook Middle School Auditorium.

Excellence in the Arts is sponsored by the Somerset County Board of Chosen Freeholders, Somerset County Cultural and Heritage Commission and Friends of Somerset County Cultural & Heritage, Inc.
