BRIDGEWATER, NJ - A Piscataway man was identified as the tow truck operator killed when he was struck by another vehicle on I-287 in Bridgewater Wednesday afternoon, according to NJ State Police Sgt. Lawrence Peele.
Nicholas Coble, 24, was pronounced dead at the scene after he was struck by a vehicle while clearing another car from the roadway at 1:44 p.m.
According to Peele, Coble was in the area of exit 17 in Bridgewater, on the line separating the exit from the roadway, when a Chevy Cruze left the roadway and struck him while he was at the rear of the tow truck.
From there, Peele said, a box truck hit the Chevy Cruze.
The driver of the Chevy Cruze was treated for minor injuries, Peele said, and the driver of the box truck sustained no injuries.
Peele said NJ State Police are continuing its investigation; no charges have been filed at this time.
The roadway was shut down for four hours Wednesday afternoon during the investigation.
