BRIDGEWATER, NJ - Much-traveled Somerset Patriots left hander Logan Darnell has cleaned out his locker and packed his bags for a second chance this season at reaching the Major Leagues.

Darnell's contract has been purchased by the Tampa Bay Rays organization. He will report to the Double-A Montgomery Biscuits. Earlier this season, his contract was purchased by the Los Angeles Dodgers May 9, and after a short stint with their Triple A team in Oklahoma City, he returned to the Patriots once again on June 1.

Darnell was 4-2 with a 3.86 ERA and 35 strikeouts in 12 appearances this season for Somerset. His 46.2 innings of work were split between two separate stints with the team.

After rejoining the Patriots on June 1st, he made eight appearances (two starts) and lowered his season ERA from 4.50 to 3.86. Arguably his best performance of the season came in his last outing, throwing 7.1 innings of one run baseball, striking out seven en route to his fourth win of the season.

The Greenbrier, Tennessee resident made his Major League debut with the Minnesota Twins on May 6, 2014. After making seven appearances with the Twins, Darnell remained in the organization through 2016.

In 2014, prior to his call-up, Darnell impressed with a 3.60 ERA and 90 strikeouts in 115 innings of work at Triple-A Rochester.

Darnell owns a 54-46 record with a 3.81 ERA over his seven-year minor league career.

This marks the ninth contract purchased from the Somerset Patriots by a Major League organization in 2017. It is the second time Darnell’s contract was purchased this season (Los Angeles Dodgers).

He now joins fellow pitchers Jeremy Bleich (Los Angeles Dodgers), Tyler Cloyd and Ryan Kelly (Seattle Mariners), Aaron Laffey (Arizona Diamondbacks), Vin Mazzaro (Cincinnati Reds), and Mitch Atkins (New York Mets), along with outfielder Jerry Sands (San Francisco Giants) as players who had their contracts' purchased earlier this season.
