EDISON, NJ - A massive collection of comic books and action figures has traveled 1,004 miles from Minnesota to New Jersey to be sold at auction by Bodnar’s Auction Sales on Thursday, Sept. 26 at the New Jersey Convention & Expo Center, 97 Sunfield Ave. beginning at 11 a.m.
The sale will also include an expansive collection of "brewerania," including beer signs, product premiums, whiseky jugs, pitchers and related advertising memorabilia consigned to the sale by a Piscataway collector.
There are thousands of items in both collections, with each item being sold to the highest bidder.
“Keeping the collection together is crucial to get the buyers to come out," explains Joe Bodnar, owner and head auctioneer.
“Many people will either sell off the best part of their collection first, leaving the rest behind, or many toy auctions will only want to pick out your best items, leaving you to figure out what to do with the rest."
Bodnar received a call from a Minnesota woman who had spent many years collecting with her brother in the hopes of one day opening a store they could run together but her brother passed away. The woman, who is disabled, decided it was time to let the lifelong collection go.
It took 2 moving trucks and Bodnar's entire staff to unpack each box to separate and photograph the items.
“Massive” is how Bodnar describes the collection.. There were many 12-75 cent comics including Fantastic Four, The Thing, Conan, Captain Marvel, The Amazing Spiderman, Tarzan, Machine Man, War of the Worlds, Batman, Detective Comics and others. There are full and partial runs of many popular and obscure comics.
Pop-culture action figures include hundreds of Star Wars characters, as well as figures from movies and TV shows - a life-sized Homer Simpson, many WWE figures, Indiana Jones, The Smurfs, Scooby Doo and many Hanna Barbera cartoon figures.
There also are Transformers, DC, Marvel, GI Joe, XYBER 9, Monster High, X-Men, TMNT, Disney movie figures, Duck Dodgers and Care Bears as well as many obscure figures, wacky wobblers, and vintage and unique finds.
In addition to all the pop-culture and comics is a large amount of autographed memorabilia and wrestling memorabilia. There is a WWE Championship belt, a signed and framed photo of TNA wrestlers, and many signed action figures still on the card just to name a few. There are also thousands of DVDs including many full box sets of various TV shows.
Doors will open for preview at 9 a.m. the day of the sale. For an early preview visit www.bodnarsauction.com.
