HILLSBOROUGH, NJ - The Township Credit Card Advisory Committee is accepting grant applications beginning March 2nd for the first round of grants for 2020, according to Deputy Mayor Shawn Lipani, liaison to the Credit Card Advisory Committee.

 Non-profit senior or youth organizations can apply for upwards of $2,000 on the township website - hillsborough-nj.org, Applications can also be picked up at the administration office at the municipal building at 379 South Branch Road.

The grants are funded through the Hillsborough Rewards Credit Card Program, according to Lipani.

Completed applications must be submitted by Friday, April 10th to the administration office.

To date, the credit card rewards program has distributed over $85,000 in grants to community based non-profit organizations that serve Township youth and seniors at no cost to taxpayers.  Individuals or businesses who sign up for the special Hillsborough Township Rewards Visa credit card have a portion of each charge returned to the municipality, which then distributes the money to the non-profits.as recommended by the advisory committee and approved by the Township Committee.

Past Grant recipients include:include Boy Scout Troop 1776, awarded funds for the purchase of camping equipment including tents and kitchen supplies; the Woodfern Home and School Association received a grant to purchase digital cameras for fundraising; the Hillsborough Rockettes & Rocket dance group purchased costume accessories with funds from the grant.

Also, the Hillsborough Women’s Club used its grant to purchase a PA system and coffee urn for a basket auction to raise funds and give back to the community. Other groups that have received funds are the Hillsborough HEAT  baseball team, the South Woods Soccer Club, and the Family YMCA. The HEAT baseball team received funds to purchase batting helmets. The Soccer Club used its grant money to purchase netting for backstops and the YMCA was able to invest in aquatic swim equipment.
